Alice White was born to a 1920s shopkeeper from London. Frank Webber, her boyfriend is a Scotland Yard Detective who appears more interested in his work with police than she does in him. Frank takes Alice out for dinner one night but Alice has hiddenly made arrangements to meet another man. Alice accepts that he will take her back to the flat so she can see his studio. He has other plans and tries to rape Alice. Alice defends herself against him and kills the man with a bread knife. Frank, who is soon assigned to the case after the body was discovered, quickly discovers that Alice is the murderer. But he also knows of another victim and is threatened with blackmail. --Col Needham
