A soldier gets amnesia after being hit with a grenade during World War II. He is eventually able to recover his memory and discovers that George Taylor is his real name. After this, he was discharged from Army. A letter from Larry Cravat, a man he would call his friend, is found by him and he travels to Los Angeles to search for Larry Cravat in order to discover his identity. Following leads, he visits a bank and hotel as well as a Turkish bath and nightclub. Hubert, Anzelmo's henchman beats George and dumps him in front of Christy Smith, a singer who works at a nightclub. Christy agrees to assist George as he tells her his story. Mel Phillips, her boss, calls and arranges for Christy to meet with him and Police Lieutenant Donald Kendall. The two learn that Larry Cravat is a private detective who received $2,000,000 in Germany three years back from a Nazi. George is then tipped to visit the Terminal Dock. Anzelmo explains to him that Larry Cravat was wanted for murdering a dock worker in order to get the money. Larry disappeared, and Anzelmo suspects George Taylo was the one who was there with Larry and possibly the murderer. George further investigates and discovers that Conroy, a man who was witness to the crime was also involved. He was struck and run by the truck and interned at Lambeth Sanatorium. George finally meets Conroy and learns the truth about the victim. He also tells George where the money was hidden before he died.
