Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, an American supernatural horror streaming TV series created by Roberto Aguirre–Sacasa for Netflix is based on the Archie comic books series of the same title. Warner Bros. Television produces the series in association with Berlanti Productions, Archie Comics and Berlanti Productions. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are the executive producers. Jon Goldwater and Lee Toland Krieger are also involved.
The series centers on Sabrina Spellman from Archie Comics. She is played by Kiernan Schiffka. It also stars Ross Lynch and Lucy Davis. Tati Gabrielle, Tati Gabrielle and Richard Coyle. The series was originally in development at the CW in September 2017. It was meant to be a companion series for Riverdale. However, it was transferred to Netflix in December 2017 with a straight to-series order. Twenty episodes were added. Filming took places in Vancouver, British Columbia.
On October 26, 2018, the first half of the season's first season was released. It consisted of ten episodes. The series received positive reviews. Critics praised Shipka's performance as well as the concept, visuals and direction. On December 14, 2018, a Christmas special episode was made. The second half of the original season, which consisted of nine episodes, was released on April 5, 2019. Netflix renewed the series in December 2018. It consists of 16 episodes. The episodes are divided into two equal parts. The first eight episodes were released January 24, 2020. The second set was released December 31, 2020.
Netflix pulled the series in July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sixth season saw two crossovers with Riverdale, which provided closure to some plot points in Sabrina. The continuation of the comic book series, The Occult World of Sabrina was also announced.
