Poldark, a British television drama about historical dramas, is based on Winston Graham's novels. Aidan Turner plays the lead role. Although the book series has 12 novels, the TV series only features the first seven. Debbie Horsfield wrote and adapted the series for the BBC and several directors directed it throughout its run. The plot is set between 1781-1801.
The series aired in eight episodes on BBC One in the United Kingdom, 8 March 2015. It was followed by seven episodes on PBS America on 21 June 2015. The BBC announced on 8 April 2015 that a second series was being commissioned[6]. It premiered on 4 September 2016. The fifth and final series was filmed in September 2018, and broadcast in July 2019. It concludes the story nine years prior to the publication of The Stranger from The Sea. The fifth series' storyline was intended to provide insight into Ross’s story between the seventh novel, The Angry Tide, and The Stranger from the Sea.
