Steve Franks created Psych, an American comedy-drama television series that focuses on detectives. James Roday plays Shawn Spencer, a young crime analyst for Santa Barbara Police Department. His "heightened observational skills"as well as impressive eidetic memories allow him to convince others that he can solve cases using psychic abilities. Dule Hill plays Shawn's smart friend and reluctant partner Burton Gus Guster. Corbin Bernsen plays Shawn's father Henry Bernsen, who was a Santa Barbara Police Department detective.
Psych was first shown on July 7, 2006. It was presented following Monk's fifth-season premiere. The series continued to be paired up with Psych until Monk's end on December 4, 2009. The second season saw the addition of an animated segment called "The Big Adventures Of Little Shawn And Gus". Psych was the most-watched US basic cable TV premiere in 2006.USA Network renewed Psych for an eighth season in December 2012 to include eight episodes. They also ordered two additional episodes on June 25, 2013. This brought the total episode order to ten.USA Network announced that the eighth season would be the last of Psych on February 5, 2014. The series finale will air on March 26, 2014.
The show has enjoyed a cult following in recent years, particularly since it went off-air. The movie, Psych: The Movie, aired on USA Network December 7, 2017. Franks stated that Psych: The Movie 2 had been greenlit. The premiere was scheduled for late 2019. However, the premiere was pushed back to 2020. The film was renamed Psych 2: Lassie Come Home. Peacock's streaming service, NBCUniversal, released the film on July 15, 2020. The premiere was delayed to 2020.
