Jeff Perry portrays Cyrus Beene, the former White House Chief Of Staff under Grant. Joshua Malina portrays David Rosen as the Attorney General. Cornelius Smith Jr. plays Marcus Walker, a civil right activist who was an OPA assistant and White House press secretary.
American Film Institute named the show Television Program of the Year. The Peabody Award for Excellence in Television was presented to the show and it was also honored with the Image Awards Outstanding Drama Series. Washington was awarded the Image Award as Outstanding Actress In a Drama Series. She has also been nominated to receive an Emmy Award in Outstanding Lead Actress, a Golden Globe Award in Best Actress, and a SAG Award in Outstanding Performance by an Actress, both in Drama Series.
