Scream, also known as Scream: The TV Series, is an American anthology slasher television show that was created by Jay Beattie, Dan Dworkin, and Jill Blotevogel for MTV and Brett Matthews on VH1. The series is based upon the slasher movie series of the same title, which was created by Kevin Williamson (and Wes Craven). Dimension Television and MTV Production Development produce the series. The series was previously filmed in Louisiana in places like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and other locations in Louisiana. Jaime Paglia and Blotevogel were the original showrunners. They were replaced by Richard Register and Michael Gans in the second season due to creative differences.
The fictional town of Lakewood was the setting for the first two seasons. It was where a series of murders took places. Emma Duval, played by Willa Fitzgerald, was the protagonist of the murders. She is a teenage girl who has a dark past and is tied to the town's present. The series debuted on MTV on June 30, 2015. It concluded its first season on September 1, 2015, and was completed on MTV. In July 2015, the series was officially renewed for a second season. A Halloween special of two hours was aired after the second season ended.
MTV renewed the series in October 2016. In April 2017, MTV announced they would reboot the series with the third series, featuring a new cast and a new setting. It was announced that Brett Matthews would serve as showrunner in the reboot. The rebooted third series also featured Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere as executive producers. The series was moved to VH1 in June 2019. It premiered on July 8, 2019, with the title Resurrection.
