Monk, an American comedy-drama television series that focuses on mystery and humor, was created by Andy Breckman. It stars Tony Shalhoub in the title role of Adrian Monk. The original run of Monk was from 2002 to 2009. It is primarily a police procedural show, but it also explores the personal lives of its main characters. Mandeville Films, Touchstone Television and Universal Network Television produced the series.
The series premiered on USA Network on July 12, 2002. The series lasted eight seasons with the last season ending on December 4, 2009. The series was able to hold the record for the longest-watched scripted drama series on cable TV from 2009 through 2012. It was broken by The Walking Dead with "Mr. Monk and the End-Part II". The series' series finale drew 9.4 million viewers. 3.2 million were in the 18-49 age group.
Critically acclaimed, the series won eight Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe Award. It also received two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
