Paul Scheuring created Prison Break, an American serial drama television program for Fox. Two brothers, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), and Michael Scofield, (Wentworth Miller) are the main characters in Prison Break. Burrows is sentenced to death for an unrelated crime, and Scofield devises a plan to free his brother and get his name cleared. The series' creator Paul Scheuring is also executive-produced by Matt Olmstead and Marty Adelstein, Dawn Parouse and Neal H. Moritz. Brett Ratner directed the pilot episode. Ramin Djawadi composed the series' theme music and was nominated in 2006 for a Primetime Emmy Award.
Fox initially rejected the series in 2003 because it was worried about its long-term viability. In 2004, Fox decided to support production due to the success of 24 and Lost, serialized prime-time television series. The first season received mostly positive reviews from critics with universal acclaim from audiences.Furthermore, it performed exceptionally in the ratings and was originally planned for a 13-episode run, but was extended to include an extra nine episodes due to its popularity. However, the subsequent seasons received strong ratings. Some critics felt that the show had outlived its time. Prison Break won the People's Choice Award 2006 for Favorite New TV Drama and the Golden Globe Award 2005 for Best Television Series Drama. All five seasons were released on DVD in the United States and Blu-ray worldwide.
