Wentworth is an Australian drama series on television. It premiered on SoHo in May 2013. The 100th episode was broadcast on Fox Showcase on 26 October 2021. This series is a modern reimagining Prisoner, which ran from 1979 to 1986 on Network Ten. From Reg Watson's original idea, Wentworth was created by Lara Radulovich & David Hannam. The series is set in modern times and focuses initially on Bea Smith (Danielle Cormack), early days in prison, and her rise to the top in prison's hierarchy. The series began to focus more on an ensemble format from the fifth season.
Wentworth was shot on purpose-built sets located in Clayton, Victoria, for the first three seasons. Production moved to Newport, Victoria, for the fourth season. The show received mostly positive reviews from critics and became the most-watched Australian drama series premiere on Foxtel history. It was picked up in several countries including New Zealand and the UK where it is called Wentworth Prison.
Wentworth was asked to produce an eighth season, which would consist of 20 episodes. It will air in two parts, the first from July 2020 through September 2020 and the second from 24 August 2021. The final episode will air on 26 October.
